"Draw, Paint, Grow" Art Camp - Day 2

"Draw, Paint, Grow" Art Camp
June 10 - 13, 2013
Bear Paw Studio - North Pole, Alaska

Day 2

Today we started out with a special treat from Gretchen, delivered by our favorite Hello Kitty!

"Hello Kitty" Elise delivers our treats.

And what a treat they are!  Jello-aquariums, complete with kelp, fish, and other edible sunken treasures!

Emma is about the devour her fish!

After treats, we went to work on our exercises and paintings.  First we look at some large shapes held up to a mirror so we can see how "mirror image" works.

Then, we try drawing some on our own.  It can be very tricky to draw in mirror image.

After some practice together, we go back to our seats and work on matching, duplicating, and drawing mirror images on paper.

Don't these look fun?

Hmmm, time to focus and look carefully at all those lines, dots, and circles.

Then, on to painting today's subject--a colorful parrot.  We do our step by step drawings, then the students learn that using watercolors requires using lots of . . . . . . you guessed it . . . . . . water!  Paint needs to flow, not scratch and lump across the surface of the paper.  Of course, too much water can be a problem, too.  Just enough, but not too much, is the goal.

Emma outlines her parrot.

Emma and Kaylee keep the paint brushes working.

Melody working on her background.

And now for the line up with the finished parrots--all bright and beautiful, even the parrots!

We are making good progress.  Check back soon to see what we paint in the next lesson.
